Ralink Rt2571w Driver For Mac

Humm lets see here, OS 9.x and OS X dont do windows programs, also cause of the diffrent software and to diffrent hardware of the older Macintosh computers, the windows PC uses whats called a X86 cpu, and the older Macs uses a PPC or powerpc CPU. 2 totaly diffrent prosessers that are incompatable with each other. Im not including the new intel mac which uses a X86 cpu but i dont think your talking about those cause they have wifi built in. Still even tho it was a intel Mac the operating system OS X wont use windows only code (AKA.exe files) only if you use bootcamp to install windows on the system and run it nativly (intel mac only). Now the only way for a old PPC mac to use windows code is to use whats called virtual PC to install windows on the Mac that emulates a PC hardware.

But i have found out that it will detect my WUSB54GS wireless G USB adapter but wont let it work cause the Macintosh's OS dont have drivers to use the hardware. Both Mac OS 9.x (classic) and OS X 10.x shows the hardware in ASP (apple system Profiler) but the Airport software will not detect it cause its on USB and the airport software dont do USB. That is where Linksys comes in, they are developing drivers for your and my USB wifi devices. I got a email from them saying they are making them, but they wont release a date they are going to.

One of the reasons they said is somthing they need from apple to develop the drivers to make shure they are bug free. But what i see this can take forever.

(edit) there are very few People that make Mac/PC hybrid cd's. Blizzard entertainment is one of them. Cause most of there cd's are Mac/pc hybrid.

What that means that one cd contains the programs for the pc and a programs to work on Mac's. Cause pc software will not work on OS 9.x or OS X cause it uses diffrent code.

Most of the drivers here on linksys's site are only for windows PC machines. And the cd's that came with the hardware only have the install program and drivers that only work on windows machines. There are only a select few devices that linksys sell's that have Mac drivers and our usb devices just dont have Mac compatable drivers. Which i hope linksys is really working on like they said Message Edited by madmax2069 on 01:53 AM. Mine works like a dream, picking up a connection 1km away from a home made antenna on the roof. It works but not with the Linksys CD drivers that are only for windows. Also you need a specific version of WUSB54G, v4.

Click on the blue apple menu at the top left of your screen and choose 'About this Mac' and 'More Info.' In the Hardware section under USB you should see 'Wireless-G USB Network Adapter'. If you see this it will work. Will be your next stop to pick up the driver and utility.

Will check back in the next few days to see if anyone is interested in more info.
